Another Flash Slideshow

Since I have no creative mind or soul, I rely on others.

Below is a Flash Slideshow I found on the website of the famous Dutch Singer Jan Smit.

I did adjust the html code and put in my own images. Well, not my own, cos I do not own a Harley-Davidson motorcycle.

Pinnen: best wel moeilijk

Nederland krijgt een nieuwe pinpas met chip en het volk een trauma omdat het te stom is om het toe te passen. [link naar AD]

En vervolgens krijgt BP een sneer omdat het die techniek al gebruikt.

Daarom hekelt het Platform Detailhandel Nederland de stap van BP, die de methode al wel introduceerde en een eigen folder maakte. [link naar AD]

Nee, eerst uitleggen met een hoop foldertjes. En veel toelichting, begeleiding en veel zorg. Heel veel zorg. Het zijn tenslotte geen spiegeltjes en kralen, maar techniek. En techniek is best wel moeilijk. Zeg maar. Als het ware. Dus.

Je zou eens mogen verwachten dat die hoogontwikkelde mondige Nederlander het zelf ontdekt.

En dat langer wachten in de rij maakt ook niets uit. Ik sta nu al te wachten tot die hersenloze zombie efficiente huisvrouw 's een keer aanstalten maakt d'r karretje te laden bij het afrekenen, in plaats van passief te staren naar de lopende band.

Prijzen Windows 7

In de Microsoft Store voor Nederland zie ik dat de prijzen voor Windows 7 bekend zijn. En het is niet gratis.

Als je dat vergelijkt met Mac OS X Snow Leopard dat er in september aankomt, is het wel héél véél meer.

Een upgrade kost slechts 29 euro als je al Leopard hebt. Heb je, zoals ik, Mac OS X Tiger, dan moet je wel de volle mep betalen. Maar dan kan je niet alleen het OS kopen. Je moet er ook iLife en iWork bij aanschaffen.

De prijs voor die set is nog niet bekend maar men denkt dat het 179 euro wordt. Bij Amazon US is de prijs bij voorintekening 169 dollar.

Als je dan bedenkt dat Mac OS X meestal 129 euro kost en iLife en iWork elk 79 euro, is totaal 287 euro, dan is 179 euro een goede deal. En er is maar 1 smaak OS. En geen 3.

Je hebt dan software waar Windows niet aan kan tippen.

Flash Cookies

In een artiikel in The Register - Sites pulling sneaky Flash cookie-snoop - las ik dat er behalve HTTP cookies in the browser ook informatie wordt bewaard door middel van Flash Cookies. Als je niet wilt dat anderen om de hoogte raken van je web aktiviteiten, is het niet voldoende om in de browser de cache, de geschiedenis en de cookies te wissen.

Op de pagina van het Social Science Research Network - Flash Cookies and Privacy - kan je een pdf bestand downloaden waarin dat beschreven staat. Op een Mac worden die Flash Cookies bewaard in:

/users/[username]/Library/Preferences/Macromedia/Flash Player/

Op een Nederlands systeem heet het Bibliotheek. Ik heb er even gekeken. In de betreffende mappen stonden bij elkaar zo'n 1400 mappen met van die .sol bestandjes. Daredevil als ik ben, heb ik ze allemaal gewist. Wat niet weet wat niet deert. Je vraagt je dan af wat de gevolgen zijn. Voor zover ik kan bepalen: niets.

Een tochtje langs websites die ik dagelijks bezoek, toonde wel aan dat die websites Flash info bewaren. Hoe voorkom je dat nu? Simpel. Beveilig de mappen. Op onderstaande afbeelding heb ik die 2 mappen geselecteerd en met Cmd-Option-I het info-venster getoond. Als je Beveiligd aanvinkt, worden de mappen beveiligd tegen schrijven. En wederom, voor zover ik kan bepalen heeft het geen invloed op het websurfen.

Objects on top of Movies

A while ago I read this topic about placing objects on top of QuickTime movies in iWeb:

Quicktime not layering behind others

In iWeb an object appears to be on top, but after publishing the page the object disappears behind the QuickTime movie.

Have a look at these images below. On the left a Flash Video, on the right a QuickTime movie. You'll see 2 images, the blue-ish one is the (selected) image on the page, the red-ish one when dragged.

When displayed in a browserwindow it's normal behaviour that QuickTime movies are on the front. But it seems strange when working in iWeb. Despair galore!

So what's the solution? Use a Flash Video. Besides that, you have more features. See my iFrame section with samples.

Embedding Bing Maps

Embedding Bing Maps is slightly more complex than embedding Google Maps, since Bing does not provide the embed code. But it is possible. Here's how.

Go to Bing Maps and navigate to your desired location.

Click the share link and copy the URL. To verify, open a new browser window and paste the URL in the addressfield and hit return.

To embed the page in a webpage or blog, use this HTML code:

To see more of the map, click the close icon in the lefthand column. Or click the vertical divider in the middle.

The horizontal scrollbar is part of the Bing page and not of the DIV or IFRAME HTML element.

You can hide the logo and the search field, and center the result, by adding some extra code.

Paste this after scrolling ="no" : style="margin-top: -120px; margin-left: -5px"

Result: scrolling="no" style="margin-top: -120px; margin-left: -5px;">

This will hide the top of the Bingpage.

Note: to compensate for the -120px, the height of the DIV element must be decreased too (700px - 120px = 580px).

Note that different browsers will display the embedded map differently. So tinker with the settings.
